Its the Ropers!

We are happy to welcome Wendy Roper and her family to our ward. Wendy was born and raised in Southern California. She has three brothers and two sisters. She met her husband John at BYU where she received her degree in Early Childhood Education. Before coming to Columbus the Ropers lived in California where John worked in finance for Disney. He now works at Cardinal Health in Dublin, OH. They have a five year old daughter, Natalie, and a two year old son, Henry. Wendy enjoys running (she has run 2 marathons), baking, and decorating. She also plays the violin. Lets give a warm welcome to Wendy and her family!!!

Gardening

Hello Sisters,

Tuesday’s Gardening class taught by Brother Tobler will be at his home at 6:30pm. Many of you may know Brother Tobler as an Emeritus Member of the 70 and current Sealer in the Temple, but what you may not know is that Brother Tobler is a master gardener who designed and is responsible for the landscaping and grounds at the Columbus Temple. He has also done the same with his beautiful home and gardens off Olentangy River Road. He has now graciously invited all of us to come and learn in his very own laboratory. I hope you all can make it there Tuesday night, May 4th. Don’t forget a pen and paper as you learn fabulous tips about designing, growing, and arranging flower and vegetable gardens.

Welcome 'New' Sister Natalie Armstrong!

Help us welcome the newest member of our ward, Natalie Armstrong! Natalie was born and raised in a small town in Colorado. She was raised Methodist and has one brother and one sister. She was taught the gospel and baptized by her now husband, Alex. Since that time her sister has joined the church and been sealed in the temple and her parents are preparing to be baptized as well. Before becoming a full-time Mom to her son, Elijah (almost 4 years old), Natalie worked successfully in the field of Developmental Rehabilitation. Specifically, she helped individuals with mental and/or physical disabilities find and secure employment within the community. Natalie hopes one day to use her interest and knowledge in Nutrition to help children with disabilities. It won't take you long after being around Natalie to feel of her big heart and passion for life. Welcome to the Lewis Center Ward, Natalie!

Relief Society Birthday Party

We had a great time at the Annual Relief Society Birthday party this year. Thank You Sisters for coming. Special Thanks to Erin and Cindy and all of those who helped with set up and food. Here are a few of the pictures from that evening.

Cafe Rio Recipes

Pico de Gallo
4 fresh tomatoes, chopped
1 white onion, chopped
¼ bunch cilantro, chopped

Café Rio Pork
4 lbs Pork Roast
4 8oz tomato sauce
3 tsp garlic
4 tsp cumin
½ tsp salt
4 c. Dr Pepper
2-4 C. brown sugar
3 T molasses
Pepper to taste

Slow cook med for 12 hours. Shred with fork.

Café Rio Chicken
2 ½ lbs chicken breast, boneless, skinless
½ bottle Zesty Italian dressing
½ T. chili powder
½ T. cumin
1 ½ tsp minced garlic

Slow cook Med for 5-7 hours. Shred Chicken

Café Rio Lime Rice

2 ½ C. rice
4 T. butter
4 ½ C. Chicken broth
4 small limes –zest and juice
4 T. chopped cilantro
1 ½ tsp salt
½ tsp cumin
Pepper to taste


Creamy Cilantro Dressing
16 oz. La Victoria green salsa
1 t. garlic
1/4 t cayenne pepper
1/2 t cumin
1/2 c sugar
1 c chopped cilantro
1 pkg dry ranch buttermilk dressing
1/2 t. salt
3 T lime juice
3-4 drops Tabasco sauce
Blend all ingredients in blender.

Spotlight on "New Sister": Amy Smith

Please welcome Amy Smith to the Lewis Center Ward. Amy and her husband Todd with their 3 children (Dylan, Brooklyn, and Logan) just moved here from Louisville, Kentucky. Amy grew up in the San Diego, California area in a very theatrical, all-girl family. Her younger sister is on Broadway in New York, and her older sister hires performers for Universal Studios in Hollywood. Amy graduated from BYU Theater Department with a degree in Costume Design. While at BYU she was also on the Ballroom Dance Team. As a perfect intersection of these two talents, Amy has submitted and received recognition for costume designs for the TV show "Dancing with the Stars". Amy is also an artist and likes to paint, mostly acrylic on canvas designs for her kids. Another interesting fact about Amy is that she loves Disney and was a Character at Disneyland during summers in college. She played Pluto, Buzz Lightyear, Eeyore, and Raffiki. It was at BYU that she met and married Todd and now 8 years and 3 1/2 kids later they are joining us as new members of the LC. What a great addition to our wonderful sisterhood!
